You might be a gardener if…

You prefer the company of vegetables and flowers to people.

You have ever found yourself spending more time in the garden department looking at seeds and plants than you did finding what you actually came to the store for.

You go to the grocery store and are disgusted by what the produce department is selling.

You go to yard sales and before buying anything ask yourself “how will this benefit my plants?”.

You bring home lady bugs and other beneficial insects when you find them in the wild.

You have dirt under your nails and swear it gives your food a better taste.

You spend more time watching plants grow than you do watching TV.

The highlight of your day is finding a new tomato.

You don’t hate much but aphids sure can piss you off.

You know how to pickle.

You spend more time playing with dirt than your children.

You have emergency procedures in place for what you do when the temperature drops below freezing.

You have found yourself weeding your friends garden without them asking.

You go to a five start restaurant but bring your own tomatoes.

You have enough seeds to grow enough food for a small village.

Even though they may taste nasty you grow strange foods because they are just cool.

Here at Remote Gardener we have a private well that is untouched by the chemicals which cities around the country add to their water. Did you know that most cities around the country add chemicals to your water?

Did you know that your tap water contains chlorine? This is the most common chemical that is added to tap water to kill living cells and organisms. When a person ingests chlorine in any amount it kills cells in the body. Our well is chlorine free and does not cause a buildup of chlorine in our plants like standard tap water. The EPA allows 4 parts per million in tap water even though any amount should be considered dangerous. When you consider that 3 parts per million is a level which is considered too high for swimming pools how can drinking 4 parts per million be considered safe to water your plants or ingest?

Take a look at this list of contaminants in drinking water on the EPA website

Now if that scares you… good. I can’t imagine bringing these chemicals into my body if I don’t have to so why would I also want to put them on my food. With our private well we add no chemicals so the plants are getting exactly what we pull out of the ground and run through a filter.

Another chemical which is added to drinking water is fluoride. Now if you brush your teeth why do you want to ingest this chemical. We are told that you should not swallow your toothpaste or mouth wash so why do we put fluoride in our drinking water? Back when there was less known about tooth hygiene this was a great way to save the teeth of the common man. Now that people are aware of how to care for their teeth why do we still add this to our drinking water? If it was such a great addition to drinking water why is it that the following countries have never added it or removed it from their list of to adds for their drinking water?

West Germany
The Netherlands
France
Belgium
Finland
Sweden
Norway
Denmark
Japan
Italy
Scotland

These countries also have a lower cancer rate per capita than the US does.
Here is an article about the effects of fluoride on plants, animals and people.

I’m not trying to create a scare about tap water. I am just pointing out that we are not adding any of these chemicals to our water. We pull it out of the ground, run it through a filter and water our plants with it so that none of these chemicals are going to show up on or in our vegetables.

Happy Growing,
