This is the coolest thing I have seen from insects in a long time. I was moving some stuff around and found these three daddy long legs surrounding this strange spider. I had to get a picture to show…

What a strange cluster of spiders huh?

While putting in the new hydroponic systems we encountered a snake which was living under our fish tank. I am assuming that he had our fish in mind for his next meal. We tried not to disturb him too much because a snake in your greenhouse will certainly take care of grasshoppers and other large insects. We will of course need to keep an eye on the fish but if he takes down 100-200 grasshoppers I am more than willing to sacrifice a fish.

When we moved the fish tank the snake took refuge behind the bricks which leveled the tank.

After moving the bricks you can see the size of this awesome grasshopper killer.

He / She has got to be at lest 3-4 months old. I pitty the grasshoppers...

We had marigolds in our greenhouse last year. These were found pushing through the rock covered asphalt floor we have in our greenhouse. I think with the new greenhouse we will sprinkle seeds all over the place. Marigolds are great for deterring those unwanted pests and they are very easy to maintain as you can see.

Marigolds pushing through rocks and asphalt. Now this area is usually rather damp because the misting system sprays over the tops of these rain gutters.
