Greenhouse Update

I haven’t added any recent updates because I guess I figure the cameras say it all. Take a look at some of these updated photos taken just today. The tomatoes are doing fantastic.

Take a look at the root growth from our hydroponic system. This plant was moved to the new greenhouse about a month ago and placed into this system. Note this is a dollar store 2.5 liter bottle where most of our bottles are only the standard 2 liter.

Holy Toledo... That is awesome root growth. Not ethe colors, that is what you want to see in your hydro system.

This is the same plant coming from the root growth shown above.

These tomato plants are growing out of a 4" deep gutter system. Take a look at our second podcast video to see just how much progress has been achieved in one month.

Check out the progress on our two liter bottle hydroponic system... These tomato plants are loving life in a two liter bottle.

HEHEHEHE... Can you say TOMATO? Looks like progress to me...

Cold Frame Greenhouse Height Modification

With this episode we continue our training by showing you how we modified our structure to work on unlevel ground. Last week we showed you how we used cement pillars which allow us some wiggle room. This week we show you how we used fence posts to raise the entire greenhouse as much as 16 feet on one side. The ground is on a maintain side which is loaded with rocks and very steep. Leveling the ground would have cost more than the entire greenhouse. By using this method we added more growing space for plants and constructed a monster greenhouse under our budget.

Remote Gardener Podcast EP #2

Here is the second installment of the Remote Gardener Video Podcast. Please enjoy, comment, ridicule. This episode is a short about the plants that we have grown in rain gutters this year. The one that I didn’t mention was peas. If you look in the archives of our blog you can see images of the 8 foot tall sweet and snap peas that we grew in 4 inch deep gutters.

This is probably the shortest one we have made. Next week we will be posting information about Solexx and progress on our newest greenhouse. Future episodes will show the entire process of planting, heating and harvesting from rain gutters.

Hydroponic System Update

I haven’t put any new photos up recently so I thought it was time to do so. We have added netting so that the tomatoes have somewhere to climb and they have sure started climbing. I can’t say enough about how awesome this new netting is… With 6 inch holes weaving the plants into climbing position is simple and easy. These photos are from the July 19th.

Hydro System two is a combination of tomato and pepper plants.

Hydroponic System One is dedicated to tomato plants.

Hydroponic System Three is used for testing different nutrient systems for tomatoes. If we see progress then we use that solution in the other systems.

We just finished getting our cooling system installed on the new greenhouse. Pictures will follow once we get the hydroponic systems in place. We also have a few surprises on how we installed the hydroponic systems in the new place. This system should make leveling the systems a lot easier.

Holes or other method to mount the greenhouse frame. Several methods are shown here on our blog. Everything from gravel, wood logs, to cement or fence posts can be used to mount these frames.
Enough self-tapping screws with neoprene washers to mount the Solexx. (found at any hardware store) We have considered that new super tape -used to glue aircraft- but haven’t tried it yet.

Another Happy Customer Assembling Their Greenhouse

I wanted to show some images of our Cold Frame and Solexx Structure being assembled on Level Ground. We live in the Arizona Mountains and finding or creating level ground is difficult to say the least. We have adapted the use of structures -already being used around the world- designed for level or near level ground to work on unlevel or uneven ground.

You can see how we adapted this 20' X 72' cold frame structure to create a greenhouse on land which is 8.5 feet lower at one end.

A client of ours in Flagstaff sent us these pictures showing progress on his Cold Frame Greenhouse. Tom is installing on level ground and will be creating a cement 1800 gallon pond allowing him to use aquaponics to grow his plants. This is a bit more complex than hydroponics but the end results I hear are fantastic.

This 20' wide Cold Frame Greenhouse is being installed on level ground. This frame is also attached to poles at the base using a sub-frame they design and built to meet their needs.

Here is a close up of the sub-frame which they created to meet their needs. It is attached to the fence posts and then the frame is attached to the sub-frame.
