Archive for April, 2010

Greetings Gardeners,

Well, the weather has turned south or you could say north. First we got hit by very high winds causing a complete hold on finishing the new greenhouse. Then to top it all off I woke up to snow on my car this morning. Nothing major but a light sprinkle. It was enough to cause concern. I went outside into the Greenhouse to make sure the temperature held through the night. Of course it did, we are after all, using Solexx. :)

It has been a few days since I posted images of our gutter growing solution so I thought I should post an update. Here are the newest pictures. As you can see the lettuce, radishes and peas love the colder weather. You can also see our tomato and pepper plants showing nice progress sprouting from the peat pots.

Strong growth in cold weather

The lettuce, greens and radishes love the cold weather and are thriving in the gutters.

The peas are having a wonderful time in the colder weather. Now if I can just get them to start flowering and making peas I will be a happy camper.

Tomatoes are sprouting, lettuce and spinach are big enough to eat. Not bad for the end of April.

Peppers, tomatoes, tomatillos and more are sprouting well. The gutters shown here were planted about three weeks after those with heavy growth and a heating strip was not placed in the bottom. You can certainly tell a difference in the growth production.

We are going to shoot for doing more to the greenhouse next weekend if weather permits. We really have to get it all done before May 15th when the local farmers market starts.

We had this big plan to finish the greenhouse frame and install the Solexx all in one day since we had a man lift for the day. We almost got the frame done.

We got closer to the end but still the lift would not fully reach where we needed it to reach.

Most Impressive huh?

So we got done what we could and will try again in a week.

Stay Tuned for updates as we progress towards completion.

The greenhouse frame is going along well. We hope to get a man lifter this weekend (weather permitting) and finish the entire structure including the Solexx covering this weekend.

End poles are in place for one end wall and 6 ribs out of 19 in place. :) woo whoo. I think that dog wants pizza.
