We had about 16 inches of snow last week but I was out of town and unable to get images of how the Solexx held up. We had about 8 inches last night and I was able to grab some shots.
One thing you must be aware of is that we are using the 49.5″ Solexx and we are using 4 foot centers with an overlap that increases as it goes. You can see an image of what I am talking about here. Doing the roof this way gave us a nice overhang at the entrance and makes it flush on the opposite end. Solexx is designed for 2 foot centers and we of course recommend this but the support we are getting with very little bracing on 4 foot centers is amazing.

Hello Greg,
Thanks for posting the new photos. I was hoping you would. I am following your progress. I was wondering how the greenhouse would do during the winter and I am impressed with its performance. Come spring I will build a similar model but I believe I will opt for the 2 foot centers as recommended. Do you think that the 20 foot wide model will hold up to the snow and wind loads built on 2 foot centers using the Solexx ? I am planning on center bracing as well. Keep the pic’s coming. Thanks Tom
Hello Tom,
Thank you for the comment. If you use 2 foot centers you should have no problem with snow or wind. Last year we had 3 feet of snow in 2 days and the greenhouse held firm although with it’s design most of the snow just slid off the side. The wind has never been a problem for us but we have had some real powerful gusts over the past year. I don’t think you will have much problem at all. I know the 3.5mm Solexx will do the trick but if you want a longer growing season (maybe a week or two more than using 3.5mm) and you live in snow country I would suggest the 5mm.
Greg,
Greg,
I love these pictures. My husband covered a Costco carport with Solexx and I love spending time out there in the evenings. It’s my sancturary. He made some modifications in the structure and added benches and a sink, along with wiring it for electricity for a fan, heater and lights. I’m all set!! We’ve been through rain, wind, snow, and ice storms.
